A Beginner-Friendly guide to Xeomin: Botulinum Toxin, Type A

This post will discuss Xeomin injections and how they can be best utilized by patients seeking to soften frown lines and improve the youth of their facial expressions.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a medication injected into the muscle which temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines that appear between the eyebrows, known as glabellar lines. Xeomin contains the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A.

How does it work?

Over long periods of time, as you squint, frown, and show emotion on your face in various ways, the muscles between the eyebrows begin to contract, which causes the skin to eventually fold-over, causing a "furrowed brow."

These repeated contractions as your skin are naturally aging cause persistent frown lines.

Xeomin's active ingredient acts on the nerve endings, preventing muscle fibers' contractions. When these contractions are reduced, treatment reduces the appearance of lines between the eyebrows.

Is Xeomin right for me?

Xeomin works best for adult patients suffering from moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines). If this sounds like you, it may be a good treatment for you. As always, you need to check with a doctor before asking for injectable treatments that work by affecting the muscles and nerves.

DO NOT use Xeomin if you have allergies to the ingredients, such as Botulinum Toxin. If you have had any allergies like this in the past or have a skin infection near the injection site, do not use this treatment.

How long does it take to see results? How long will they last?

Visible results can start as early as 3-4 days after treatment. Most patients will see results in less than a week, up to a max of 30 days. Results typically last up to three months but can last longer or shorter, depending on the patient, at which point they can be refreshed if desired.
