Everybody’s talking about. The co-called “vampire facial” has people running to aesthetics providers. Ever since Kim Kardashian very publicly tried the treatment, it’s gaining fans everywhere, from actor Rupert Everett to runway superstar Bar Rafaeli.
So, what’s a PRP treatment? The Platelet Rich Plasma facial is a way to use your body’s own healing powers to give your face a more youthful, vibrant appearance. Let’s find out more about it.
How does it work?
The PRP treatment uses the most advanced microneedling technology available – the SkinPen. To stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, this technology creates “micro-injuries”. The skin then heals with the help of the PRP which the SkinPen introduces to the layers of skin beneath the epidermis.
When you arrive for your PRP treatment, we’ll take a small amount of blood from your arm. This blood is then placed in a centrifuge, which renders plasma. This substance contains high concentrations of blood platelets, growth factors and stem cells. In other words, it’s the healing power of your body, distilled.
Your face is treated prior to a PRP session with a numbing cream, to reduce any discomfort. Then, PRP is applied and the SkinPen (consisting of 12 microneedles) is introduced. The depth of penetration is determined by your goals for the treatment.
Following this stage of the therapy, we apply more PRP to allow further penetration and optimum results. Afterwards, a hydrating gel is applied to help speed recovery.
The entire process takes about an hour, with the numbing process requiring 30 minutes. While the numbing cream is reducing sensation in the skin, we take your blood and put it in the centrifuge. Finally, microneedling take about half an hour.
Results are almost immediate, but these are augmented with time and endure for about 6 months.
How often should I do it?
For the best results possible, you should schedule a series of treatments (largely depending upon your goals), a month to 6 weeks apart. Once these sessions are done, you can maintain your results with yearly sessions.
Am I a candidate?
People will all skin types are good candidates for this treatment. But if you have a darker skin tone, PRP is particularly effective as an aesthetic anti-aging therapy.
If you have facial scarring from acne or other causes, the PRP treatment is an ideal way to address it.
