What to Expect from Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Microneedling. It sounds scary to some because of that "needling" part. But when you consider the prefix "micro," perhaps that effect is mitigated.

And it should because there's nothing scary about microneedling.

A device with ultra fine-needles is passed over the face, inducing collagen production. That's why Microneedling with PRP is known as collagen induction therapy.

When platelet-rich plasma combines with microneedling, the process tightens the skin and speeds healing due to PRP's powerful properties. It employs the natural healing magic of your blood.

What Does Microneedling with PRP do and how?

Microneedling is an effective treatment for a wide range of skin challenges. Hyperpigmentation, scarring, the signs of aging and other issues may be treated with it.

Microneedling works on many areas of the body, but Microneedling with PRP is designed only to treat the face.

Specifically, with PRP, A small amount of your blood is drawn and placed into a centrifuge, where it's separated from the other blood elements. While this is happening, a numbing agent is used to numb the area. By the time PRP is ready to be applied, you are prepared for treatment and will feel minimal (if any) discomfort.

Who is a Good Candidate for Treatment?

Anyone in good health is a candidate for microneedling with PRP. But there are some exceptions. This therapy isn't for you, if you're:

  • Pregnant
  • Using Accutane to treat acne
  • Suffering from a chronic skin condition like rosacea or eczema
  • Someone who scars easily or doesn't heal well
  • Coming out of a course of radiation therapy for the skin, which happened within the past 12 months.

If you're not sure, we'll review your medical history with you during your consultation to determine whether microneedling with PRP is right for you.

How to Prepare

Before your treatment, We'll advise you of what to do in the weeks before your session.

Direct sun exposure and tanning can interfere with the therapy's success, so stay out of the sun and the tanning bed. Also, up your water intake to improve the quality of your skin going in. The better condition your skin is in, the more effective treatment results will be.

Come to your appointment without makeup or moisturizer and arrange for a ride home after treatment. Most people are fine to drive afterward, but we always recommend playing it safe when possible.

What to do after treatment

Following your session, your technician will apply a serum to soothe any irritation which has resulted from treatment.

Bruising, inflammation and sensitivity can occur right after your session and subsides within 4 or 5 days. While you're healing, be kind to your skin. Stay out of the sun, and don't use anything harsh to cleanse or treat it.
